Pembroke Attorney Launches State Senate Bid
PEMBROKE, MA -- Calling for a fresh, progressive voice for the Plymouth & Barnstable district, Pembroke attorney Becky Coletta has announced her candidacy for Mass. State Senate. She is the first Democratic candidate for the soon to be open seat, which covers the towns of Pembroke, Kingston, Plymouth, Bourne, Sandwich and Falmouth.
“I’m running because we need proven, progressive leadership to help solve the challenges facing our district and our Commonwealth: the deepening income equality that endangers our middle class and economic well-being; changes to our climate that threaten our communities and our children’s very future; and the substance use and mental health crisis that has impacted the lives of so many we care about,” said Coletta. “We don’t get change unless we make change.”
She added, “I’ve always believed in the power of public service. Throughout my career as an attorney and business woman, I’ve demonstrated the qualities needed to be an effective advocate: You listen. You stand up for what you believe in. And you don’t stop until you get there.”
Coletta is a partner in a South Shore law practice focused on business, real estate, and estate law. She previously worked as a business attorney, including at a civil engineering firm, and as counsel for a major satellite communications firm. In addition to her law degree, she earned her master’s in social work and worked as a mental health clinician. She is a graduate of NYU Law, Loyola University, and Bridgewater State University.
She currently chairs the Pembroke Planning Board and also has extensive experience in municipal government, having served as a selectman, cable advisory committee member, and Old Colony Planning Council delegate. She is an active member of the South Shore Women's Business Network, Kiwanis, Pembroke Democratic Town Committee, and the Pembroke Chamber of Commerce.
Coletta resides in Pembroke with her husband, Robert, 12-year-old son, Luca, and their feisty Schnauzer, Wilson.
